Congratulations to Gabriele Cerutti
former member of the Vallone Lab
Congratulations to Gabriele Cerutti, former member of the Vallone Lab, for the discovery of super antibodies against Covid-19.
The discovery of neutralizing super antibodies for the development of therapies against Covid-19 has just been published in Nature (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-020-2571-7).
Dr. Gabriele Cerutti is part of the Columbia University team. Gabriele obtained his Doctorate in Biochemistry in the Vallone Lab, and he awarded by the Italian Association of Crystallography the prize for the best doctoral thesis (http://cristallografia.org/contenuto/bandi-prizes-aic-2020-/4446).
Using cryo-electron microscopy, Gabriele identified in which zone of the SARSCoV2 spike protein the antibodies bind, helping to develop a cocktail of neutralizing antibodies, as explained by the young biochemist at TG3.
The biochemistry and structural biology training obtained in Sapienza and the experience abroad within the RISE-MSCA Prometeus project (https://prometeus-rise.org/collegues-cheer-gabriele-cerutti-the-first-prometeus-secondee/) have allowed the young and brilliant Italian researcher to follow a path of excellence: in a few months he has contributed to a fundamental study for the treatment of the Covid-19 pandemic.
